Strawberry, Blueberry and Banana Smoothie

It’s time for a Sprout’s House special this week! Over the last few months, Sprout’s Daddy and I have been enjoying a variety of smoothies for breakfast. With all three of us needing to be showered, dressed and fed in just over an hour, the simplicity and ease of throwing together a smoothie means that Sprout’s Daddy can gulp his down as he heads out the door with Sprout whilst I pour mine into a flask and drink it at school as I check my emails. So here is one of the concoctions we have sampled……..

Ingredients – serves 2
1 or 2 bananas
a handful of strawberries
a handful of blueberries
a dessert spoon of oats
a dessert spoon of chia seeds  *The Raw Chocolate Company Organic Chia Seeds
a dessert spoon of flaxseed  *Linwoods Org Milled Flaxseed 425g
a dessert spoon of smoothie mix  *Superlife Superfood Smoothie Mix
a dessert spoon of bee pollen  *BonPom Bee Pollen
500ml milk - rice, coconut, soya, cow’s etc or water can be used too

Pour all the dry ingredients into a jug, add milk and whizz up!

Tips
If you have time, and remember (I have never got round to doing this!), soak the oats and chia seeds the night before.
The quantities I have used are guidelines – experiment to see what you like.
The smoothie tastes just as nice without the chia seeds, flaxseed, smoothie mix and bee pollen so don’t feel you have to include them. I add them to give our day a nutritional kick!

  1. I've never tried bee pollen in a smoothie before, only honey. Are there certain health benefits?

    1. Hi Shauna, Bee pollen is great and is being hailed as a superfood! It's supposed to boost energy, lower cholesterol, slow the aging process and prevent colds and flu etc. It contains lots of vitamins including A, B, C, D, E folic acid, calcium and potassium. I often sprinkle it on my porridge too. Just be careful you don't have any allergies to bees or seasonal allergies to pollen. Hope than helps. xox

  2. Bee pollen is new to me. I've never even heard of it being used in a smoothie. What does it taste like or does it have any taste?

    1. Hi Erlene, Bee pollen comes as granules and it has a sweet after taste - it's quite hard to describe! Best thing to do it try and see if you like it!! I put it in lots of things or sometimes just eat it straight from the spoon!! xox
